Oh I hope she wins...never seen Yes, Dear, but I hope she wins!! Although she's got tough competition.

Oh that is good news!
hug.gif Congratulations to Betty!
Lets Hope she wins winner1.gif **fingers crossed for our golden gal!**

BTW will the Emmies be broadcast in the UK?

Betty was on "Yes, Dear" ??? Did she just recently start appearing? I don't like that show much at all. I think they got Vicki Lawrence and Tim Conway to come on there ever so often, but still, even with them on I don't like it.

Maybe I will start watching if Betty is on.
Michael Nylund
I'm pretty sure it was a one-episode thing.

Congratulations, Betty.

She must be one of the most Emmy nominated actresses in TV history. Do any of you hardcore Betty fans know just how many wins and nominations she has? (not a trivia question, I'd really like to know and I'm too lazy to look it up!).

Just Men
Golden Girls
Ally McBeal (guest appearance)

PLEASE someone correct me if I'm wrong! This is from memory, and I put the emmys in chronological order. I may well have missed one out... confused.gif

THANKS, BLUE!!!!!!!! wave.gif

I KNEW she had AT LEAST 4 (when she won the first for MTM, she mentioned it's "22 year old cousin", and I knew she'd won for Golden Girls, of course). I was certain she had a lot of other noms, but didn't know what they were for!

Thanks again!
Rob
That's great that Betty has been nominated for another award! I guess an Emmy is like a TV Oscar? Will they be shown live when they air in the UK? I'm kind of hoping that they won't be, since the Emmys are held in America, and it'll be the middle of the night over here. At the same time, though, I can't see any of the mainstream channels wanting to dedicate 3 hours or whatever to an awards show that is meaningless to us in this country. Maybe it'll be shown on Channel 5. tongue.gif
Jaffa
Is an Emmy the equivalent to our TV BAFTAs, as our Film BAFTAS are equivalent to the Oscars?? blink.gif

Ooh... I'm a poet! And I don't know it! (Side note: that reminds me so much of the Gimme Gimme Gimme episode where Linda goes to her sister, Sugar, with a cup of tea and says "Sugar, Sugar?" followed by an achingly funny and confused "Oh! I'm a poet, and I don't know! ...it." lmao.gif)

didnt she also win an emmy for her appearence in The John Loqurette (or watevers its called) Show?
RatPackFanatic12
I definitely know that she has won 6 Emmys, but as of how many NOMINATIONS, i'm not that sure...but there was this thing in TV Guide about Betty winning an Emmy...b/c shes up against Cloris Leachman and Georgia Engel (both from MTMS) it goes a lil something like this...:

"They made it after all
A trio of Mary Tyler Moore Show costars face off in an Emmy showdown

Three of the five Emmy nominees for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series have Moore in common than meets the eye. Let's just say it's going to look a lot like a Mary Tyler Moore Show reunion. Hats off to these fierce competitors. -Frank DeCaro"

then they have a column for each actress and the categories are "Previous Emmys", "Mary Tyler Moore Show Role", Emmy-Nominated Guest Role", "She Says", and "Mary Tyler Moore Says". It's a good article if anyone is interested!!

I was actually meaning to bring this topic back up... Just to let everyone know...

Betty did not win the emmy for her catigory. The emmy went to Christina Applegate for her guest role on Friends.

It's a shame that Betty did not win, but we will hope that she will be nominated next year!

Lauren =)

Thanks for this-but I assume it was LAST WEEKS tv guide--it may not be on sale in my area.

Ever since the nominations I have been looking for a site I used to visit--not the official emmy site, but it had ALL past winners AND nominees going all the way back. I presume it is now defunct, as I have tried all kinds of searches.

By the by, Lauren--I know you're a huge Betty fan but she does have SEVERAL and I don't think Christina ever won before.

Did anyone see the broadcast--I missed it.

It was good to see Christina win. It doesn't affect me much that Betty didn't win. She was up against a lot of really, really good actresses. Like said, shoot again for next year. wink.gif

I had no idea the Emmys had been and gone.

Who did Betty lose to?

I think the Emmys are being broadcast on E! at the weekend. They are also being broadcast on LivingTV on Monday night.

Also, this was a special ceremony giving out some "non-important" emmys. They're important, just not "Best Actress in a daytime sitcom" or whatever... I think the ceremony was last Wednesday.

The "real" emmys, however, are on Sunday.

Thanks Lauren!!! That clears up the confusion. I remember now that some actors OBJECT to that other ceremony NOT being televised.

Well, the very fine actor Mr. Peter Boyle won a guest emmy a few years ago for his excellent role on 'X Files'. Then at the "REAL" emmys he was presenting in another cateogory. He decried the non-televised ceremony, and said he felt the need to thank his wife for his win and he DID!!!

I'm sure the academy wasn't thrilled!
James
Thanks for clearing that up Lauren!

I think the "non-important" Emmys should be televised - just because big stars are not really nominated in those categories does not mean they are not important. The Emmys are supposed to honour all television work.

Regards, James.

The "non-important" emmys WERE televised - last night! Unfortunately, I missed it, but my cousin mantionned that he saw Betty sitting in the front row, wearing a royal blue dress, and laughing a lot. I'm pretty miffed he didn't call me down, actually... blanche.gif
James
I have just visited the Emmys website. Below is information regarding the "non-important" Emmys - otherwise known as the Creative Arts Awards.
QUOTE
Information About the September 13 Creative Arts Awards

This event will take place between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 13th and the doors will open at 2:30 pm. There will be a small reception with food and beverages served at that time. The remaining awards will be given out at 5:00 pm.

All nominees being honored on September 13 are invited to attend both the 3:00 pm and the 5:00 pm event, walk the red carpet, go through the press line, and enjoy the Governors Ball.

Please note that if you do not attend the 3:00 pm program, a pre-edited clip package will be shown at the 5:00 pm event that will feature all of the nominees as well as Emmy recipients and will be included in the televised version of the Creative Arts Awards on E! Entertainment (telecast time and date still to be determined) in exactly the same format as all of the other awards.

It looks like they were televised, but am I right in saying they were not shown in full?

Regards, James.

I asked my cousin and he said that they weren't shown in full, but pretty much in full. Apparently Betty got quite a lot of air time! rose.gif

Did anyone watch the Emmys? Betty got a short little mention about being nominated. Lucky I pressed record just beforehand. I was jumping around like a maniac when I heard "Betty White...Yes, Dear" aaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! so exciting!! biggrin2.gif
